Improvements to High Rock Reservation include a new granite staircase running from Essex Street at McGloin Square up to the Stone Cottage and then around and up to the base of Stone Tower.
Funding is from the State of Massachusetts (PARC grant) for $500,000, as well as CDBG funds in the amount of $245,000. OECD hopes to purchase a new more powerful telescope and complete a connection of the exterior camera to the City’s website. Construction is going on now and should be complete by the end of June 2011.
Design for the final site phase of work will be complete Summer 2011. That work includes a vehicular turnaround and parking at the Stone Cottage level of the Reservation. The turnaround is sized to allow school bus access.
Funding for the stairs and the vehicular improvements are from two separate grants from Massachusetts EEA PARC Program totaling $500,000 each. Community Development Block Grant funds provide the necessary match( $245,000) for each of these grants.
