Did You Know...
Inventor of the Shoe-lasting Machine, Jan Matzeliger not only revolutionized the shoe industry but made Lynn, Massachusetts, the "shoe capital of the world.
Colonial Lynn was a major part of the regional shoe-making which started in 1635, and tannery industries of the early U.S. colonies, which reportedly includes the boots worn by Continental Army soldiers during the Revolutionary War. This historic theme is reflected in the city seal, which features a colonial boot.
The City of Lynn was first settled in 1629 and was officially incorporated that same year.
The City of Lynn, Massachusetts has prepared this one-year Annual Action Plan to provide a summary of actions, projects and programs that it will undertake to address the needs and priorities identified in the five-year Consolidated Plan.

The application for the 2012 City of Lynn Summer Jobs Program sponsored by Mayor Judith Flanagan Kennedy and administered through the Office of Economic & Community Development should be submitted at Room 311 in City Hall during normal business hours between April 23rd and May 25th. Lynn Shore Drive History The Metropolitan District Commission acquired private properties in the early 1900's in order to create the two abutting reservations along the present day Lynn Shore Drive.
Many buildings, including Samuel Soule's 1855 Hotel Nahant, were removed in order to assure public access, protect important natural features and provide open space.
