MARKET STREET GATEWAY PLAN

 

The City of Lynn received a $75,000 Gateway Plus Action Grant from the state Department of Housing and Urban Development (DHCD) to assess future development opportunities along the Market Street corridor which extends form Broad Street, up Market to Essex and back down Washington Street to Broad. 

The eastern boundary of this target area (Market and Broad Streets) abuts the Washington Street Gateway Area which connects the downtown to the Lynnway and the beginning of Lynn’s waterfront. The planning process was completed in August 2009.

 

 

Lynn's Market Street Gateway Goals

 
1.

  • Increase the supply of mixed-income housing options in the downtown area that will not only provide housing opportunities for Lynn’s workforce, but will also create the mass needed to support a strong retail and commercial base for this area
2.

  • Survey current land uses and examine options to acquire properties or eliminate non-conforming uses that are having a negative impact on the neighborhood which will allow the City to effectively increase housing in the Market Street Gateway Area
3.

  • Connect the Market Street area to the waterfront and create a revitalized neighborhood that offers a diverse group of residents many amenities and a high quality of life
4.

  • Establish a comprehensive and open planning process that involves both the public and private sectors of the community to ensure support for the planning process
5. Develop a strong social infrastructure representing all residents and stakeholders of the community that will continue to support the neighborhood as revitalization activities are undertaken
